Hire Charges & Pricing
What are your hire charges?
Our rates are competitive rates. We offer excellent value for our modern facilities, including use of the main hall, kitchen, and outdoor space.
- Regular bookings: £20 per hour
- Adhoc bookings: £32 per hour
- Local residents: £27 per hour
Are there different rates for different types of events?
All prices are the same, for whatever event.
Deposits & Payment
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, we require a deposit to secure your booking. The deposit amount varies depending on the duration of the event. This will be confirmed when you make your booking enquiry.
When is payment due?
The deposit is required within 7 days of confirming your booking. The remaining balance is due 14 days before your event.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfers, cheques, and cash payments. Full payment details will be provided with your booking confirmation.
Viewing the Hall
Can I view the hall before booking?
Absolutely! We encourage potential hirers to visit and see our fantastic facilities firsthand. Contact us to arrange a convenient viewing time – we’re flexible and happy to accommodate your schedule.
When can I arrange a viewing?
Viewings can be arranged most days of the week, subject to our regular activities schedule. We’ll work around your availability to find a suitable time.
Hall Size & Capacity
How big is the main hall?
Our spacious main hall features a flexible open-plan layout that can be adapted for various event styles. The generous space comfortably accommodates up to 120 guests.
What's the maximum capacity?
Our hall accommodates up to 120 people comfortably for various seating arrangements including dining, theatre-style, or mixed layouts.
Can you accommodate smaller groups?
Absolutely! While our capacity is 120, we welcome events of all sizes. Smaller groups will have plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the facilities.
Cancellation Policy
What's your cancellation policy?
Deposits are refundable if you cancel with adequate notice. Our full cancellation policy will be outlined in your booking agreement, with different notice periods for different refund amounts.
What happens if I need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances?
We understand that sometimes events need to be cancelled. Contact us as soon as possible to discuss your situation – we’ll work with you to find the best solution.
Insurance
Do I need insurance for my event?
We recommend that hirers have public liability insurance, particularly for larger events or those involving activities with higher risk. We can advise on insurance requirements based on your event type.
Are you insured?
Yes, High Ongar Village Hall carries comprehensive insurance. However, hirers remain responsible for their own activities and any damage caused during their event.
Regular Classes
What regular activities take place at the hall?
Can I book around regular classes?
Yes, we can work around our regular schedule. Some time slots may be more limited due to ongoing commitments, but we’ll help find the perfect time for your event.
Weddings & All-Day Events
Do you cater for weddings?
Absolutely! Our hall is perfect for wedding receptions with space for dining, dancing, and celebrating. The outdoor area is ideal for photos and additional activities.
Can I hire the hall for all-day events?
Yes, we offer flexible booking times including all-day hire for weddings, conferences, and special celebrations. Extended hire rates apply.
What time can I start setting up?
Setup times are included in your booking and can be arranged to suit your needs. For large events, early access may be available by arrangement.
Bar Facilities
Can I serve alcohol at my event?
Yes, alcohol can be served at private events. You’ll need to ensure you have the appropriate temporary event notice (TEN) if required. We can provide guidance on licensing requirements.
Do you have bar facilities?
We don’t operate a bar, but you can arrange your own bar service or use licensed mobile bar providers. Our kitchen facilities support drink service.
Bouncy Castles & Inflatables
Can I have bouncy castles and inflatables?
Yes! Our large outdoor space is perfect for bouncy castles and inflatables. Indoor inflatables may be possible depending on size – please discuss your requirements when booking.
Do you have power supply for inflatables?

Do you provide catering?
We don’t provide catering but welcome external caterers using our kitchen. We have trusted local caterers we can recommend and offer pre-event facility visits for unfamiliar caterers.
Can I use the kitchen for my own catering?
Yes, our kitchen is available for your use or your caterer’s use, with full cooking and preparation facilities.
Cleaning
Do I need to clean the hall after my event?
We ask that you leave the hall in a clean and tidy condition. Basic cleaning supplies are available.
What cleaning is expected?
Please clear all rubbish, wipe down surfaces, and ensure the hall is left as you found it. Detailed cleaning guidelines will be provided with your booking.
Decorations
Can I decorate the hall?
Yes, you’re welcome to decorate for your event. Please use appropriate fixings that won’t damage walls and remove all decorations after your event.
Are there any decoration restrictions?
We ask that you avoid using nails, screws, or anything that might damage the walls. Blu-tack, removable hooks, and freestanding decorations are perfect.
Disabled Access
Is the hall accessible?
Yes, our modern facilities are fully accessible with wheelchair access, accessible parking spaces, and accessible toilet facilities.

We have accessible parking close to the entrance, level access throughout, and accessible toilet facilities. Please let us know of any specific requirements when booking.
Equipment & Sound System
What equipment is available?
We provide tables and chairs, please note we have no sound system. Additional equipment can be arranged or you’re welcome to bring your own.

Is there first aid equipment available?
Basic first aid supplies are available on-site. For larger events, we recommend arranging qualified first aid cover, which we can help you organise.
Heating
Is the hall heated?
Yes, our modern hall has efficient underfloor heating throughout, ensuring your guests are comfortable whatever the weather.
Kitchen Facilities
What kitchen facilities are available?
Our fully equipped kitchen includes cooking facilities, refrigeration, preparation areas, and serving access to the main hall – perfect for any catering needs.
Music & Sound System
Do you have a sound system?
Sorry no we do not.
What are the noise restrictions?
As a community venue, we ask that music levels are kept reasonable, particularly for evening events. We’ll provide guidelines on acceptable noise levels.
Opening & Closing
What time can I access the hall?
Access times are arranged as part of your booking. We’re flexible and can accommodate early setup or late finishes by arrangement.
Who locks up after my event?
Locking up procedures will be explained when you collect the keys. You’ll be responsible for securing the building at the end of your event.
Parking
Is parking available?
Yes, we have ample free parking on-site for all your guests – no need to worry about finding spaces or parking charges.
Rubbish & Waste
What do I do with rubbish after my event?
Please bag all rubbish and place it in the designated area. For large events, you may need to arrange additional waste collection, which we can help coordinate.
Setup & Pack Away Time
How much time do I get for setup?
Setup time is included in your booking period. For complex events requiring extended setup, additional time can be arranged.
When do I need to finish packing away?

Is WiFi available?
Yes, complimentary WiFi is available throughout the hall for your guests and any presentation or business needs.
Is the WiFi suitable for streaming or presentations?
Our WiFi connection is suitable for general use and presentations. For events requiring high bandwidth, please discuss your requirements when booking.
